  1. tobias lutke is my favorite c.e.o. all the stuff in the article applies to selecting companies for your portfolio, in my opinion. not every investment will be a home run so you put a lot of irons in the fire. you could say i was “lucky” to buy my first shopify shares around 30 bucks a few years ago but i also bought 30 other businesses around the same time. they were smaller amounts purchased at that time but a small handful went to 4-10 times their initial value and carry the day and more than made up for the ones that dropped in value.

    if you think about it juggernauts like amazon and google are doing the same right now. they might be working on 30 different unicorn projects that might fail but one or two will disrupt how the world does commerce and make the losers worthwhile. you make your own luck by taking calculated risk. that’s how i see it. your mileage may vary.
